Recent events in one of the most Queer cities in Europe prompt reflection. The LGBT+ community has been under attack for over 30 years\u2014for various reasons, not always Islamist ones.<\/p>\n

  1. What appears to be the first terrorist attack\u2014and, as it turned out, an Islamist one at that\u2014was the attack on the night of April 28, 1990, at the “Uncle Charlie’s” bar in Greenwich Village, New York. A homemade bomb severely injured three people; the perpetrator, El Sayyid Nosair, was identified five years later among jihadists.<\/li>\n
  2. On February 21, 1997, an attack took place on the lesbian bar “Otherside Lounge” in Atlanta. A homemade bomb injured five people. The perpetrator turned out to be Christian fundamentalist Eric Rudolph, who was also targeting numerous abortion clinics at the time.<\/li>\n
  3. On April 30, 1999, the “Admiral Duncan” club in Soho, London, was attacked. David Copeland, a neo-Nazi, killed three people and injured many with a handmade bomb.<\/li>\n
  4. On June 30, 2005, in Israel, during Jerusalem Pride, ultra-Orthodox Jew Yishai Schlissel stabbed 3 people. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and on July 30, 2015, he attacked Jerusalem Pride again, injuring six people, one of whom died.<\/li>\n
  5. On the night of June 11\/12, 2016, Omar Mateen opened fire at the Pulse club in Florida. 49 fatalities and 53 severely injured. It remains the deadliest mass shooting in US history.<\/li>\n
  6. On March 23, 2018, in a parking lot in Carcassonne, Radouane Lakdim, a jihadist, shot and killed one person and wounded another before taking hostages in a nearby supermarket.<\/li>\n
  7. On September 28, 2019, married couple Arkadiusz and Karolina S. brought a homemade bomb to the Equality March in Lublin. The police managed to detect the threat and neutralize the bomb.<\/li>\n
  8. On June 25, 2022, the day before the parade in Oslo, two people were killed and 21 were injured at the “London Pub” club by Zaniar Matapour\u2014a Norwegian of Iranian descent.<\/li>\n
  9. On November 19, 2022, at “Club Q” in Colorado Springs, Anderson Lee Aldrich, a Catholic fundamentalist, opened fire, killing five people and injuring 18. He was praised for this by his father, who stated that this proved he was not gay.<\/li>\n
  10. On October 12, 2022, at the “Tepl\u00e1re\u0148” club in Bratislava, Juraj Kraj\u010d\u00edk, a white supremacist, shot two people dead.<\/li>\n
  11. On July 25, 2026, an attack occurred following the march during CSD in Berlin. Abdul Ballout drove a car into the crowd, killing one person and injuring many. The woman killed turned out to be a Polish citizen who had come to Berlin with her daughter.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
